Breastfeeding in the 21st Century

A celebratory study of how breastfeeding and breast milk delivery looks in our society today.
Untitled3.png

Having been a breastfeeding peer supporter I have worked in the community and built up knowledge and awareness of how breastfeeding looks and works in society.

I asked participants to share images, and a short narrative if they wanted, exploring the question “What does breastfeeding ‘look’ like for you?” This returned a wide range images, words and descriptors from across the country.  (Participants have given their consent to their image and narrative to be shared publically.)

The artworks created in response focus on the results, removing the surrounding imagery, in order to celebrate breastfeeding or feeding breast milk to our babies and children. Whilst the collection is not exhaustive of those in society today, representation includes older children; bottle-fed breast milk, and those who feel their personal gender or non-gendered identity has played a part in their journey.
